Behaviour in Crisis Lab at Jagiellonian University in Krakow

The Behavior in Crisis Lab (BiC-Lab) is a research group at Jagiellonian University in Kraków, led by Prof. Małgorzata Kossowska. The lab investigates the psychological mechanisms underlying human behavior in crisis situations, focusing on motivation, cognition, and cross-cultural variation in responses to collective threats. BiC-L adopts an interdisciplinary approach that combines experimental, quantitative, and qualitative methods, and it is committed to translating research findings into practical applications through collaboration with practitioners and policymakers. The lab actively engages in international research partnerships, including projects funded under Horizon Europe and Erasmus+, with collaborators across many countries, including the UK, the USA, Italy, Greece, Austria, the Netherlands, Spain, and Sweden.

The lab hosts one conference at the end of the year, along with regular open meetings, designed as an international, interdisciplinary space for exchanging knowledge, developing new ideas, and building meaningful academic connections. These events are open to scholars at any career stage. During Academic Year 2025/2026, the BiC Lab hosted 23 research talks, featuring 25 speakers from 9 countries and 13 universities and research centers.
